Back in 2001 libraries became involved in the altered book genre after San Francisco Public library staff found loads of vandalised books hidden and shoved under shelves. Fortunately an idea was born and there followed an exhibition of 200 original works of art created from the damaged books, with people from all over the world wanting to participate.
Then in 2007 the University of West of England and their library curated an altered book exhibition. If you look on the website www.bookarts.uwe.ac.uk/regen there is a wealth of material listed under the individual artist's name, showing the artists' statements and samples of their work. It's quite a list, so you'll need some time to browse if you want to view the whole lot, although if you are interested in book art it's a wonderful collection.
